Mother's Day is just around the corner, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that the gifts kids make themselves are always the ones that get treasured most. Whether they're celebrating mom, grandma, a special aunt, or anyone who loves them, here are five simple ideas your little one can make at home with just a few supplies and a whole lot of love.
1. The Coupon Book
This one is a classic for a reason. Help your child fold a few sheets of paper in half and staple them together to make a little book. On each page they write or draw one coupon for something they'll do for mom. A free hug. Breakfast in bed. Picking up their toys without being asked. Mom gets to cash them in whenever she wants. Trust us, she'll hold onto this one for years.
What you need: Paper, crayons or markers, stapler
2. Handprint Flower Bouquet
Trace your child's hand on colored paper and cut it out. That's your flower. Add a green pipe cleaner or rolled paper strip as the stem and let them make a whole bouquet. They can draw faces on the flowers, write their name, or decorate however they like. Put them in a cup or vase and you have the kind of flowers that never wilt.
What you need: Colored paper, scissors, pipe cleaners or paper strips, markers
3. A Day in the Life Book
Fold three or four sheets of paper in half and staple them together to make a little book. Each page gets a prompt your child fills in with words or drawings. "My mom is the best at..." "My favorite thing we do together is..." "Mom always makes me feel..." It takes about 20 minutes to make and becomes something mom keeps forever.
What you need: Paper, stapler, crayons or markers
4. The Breakfast Order Voucher
This one is extra special. Your child designs a custom breakfast menu just for mom, complete with all her favorites. Pancakes, eggs, coffee, the works. On Mother's Day morning they present the menu, take her order, and serve breakfast with a little help from dad. Download our free printable Breakfast Order Voucher below to make it extra official.

5. Paper Bead Bracelet
Cut magazine pages or colored paper into long thin triangles. Starting at the wide end, roll each triangle tightly around a toothpick and seal the tip with a dot of glue. Slide it off and you have a paper bead. String a handful onto elastic thread and tie it off. Mom gets a one of a kind bracelet made with love and probably a little glue on the kitchen table.
What you need: Old magazines or colored paper, toothpicks, glue, elastic thread
